I overlooked that 'command' is checking bot extension and lexer. Maybe
inverting the check in run.lua to
local command = commands[buffer:get_lexer()] or
                 commands[buffer.filename:match('[^.]+$')]
could help?
But this wouldn't work for languages like C/C++ which share a lexer, right?

Removing the latex-options is probably still the best solution.
