Others like M-^N work on both Linux and OS X for me, I considered
setting Ctrl-Meta-W for close split view

That's just the first that seemed easy to set via copy-and-paste for
testing, but I don't know a good choice either. The default Linux view
short cuts would have conflicts as well.
