If I had to summarize it to one piece of advice, it's "don't use io.popen".
The recently-added spawn() function is much better because 1) you can read
and write to a process instead of doing one or the other with a temporary
file, and 2) it doesn't open a command prompt on Windows.

The auto-completion is done by dumping the entire editor buffer to the
stdin of the client program for the DCD autocomplete server and making
scintilla API calls based on the client's stdout.
