You need to put your `buffer` settings in *~/.textadept/properties.lua* in order to for them to take effect across all buffers. Please see *doc/manual.html* in the Textadept archive, and not on the website. Beginning in Textadept 10 you can put your `buffer` settings in *init.lua*.
