Are you on Linux? Does the same thing happen in SciTE? Both Textadept and SciTE use the Scintilla editing component. I'm wondering if Scintilla's GTK platform code cannot handle invalid UTF-8 bytes on the clipboard. (GTK is the GUI toolkit Textadept uses.)
