Try this instead:

keys['cleft'] = { function() textadept.check_focused_buffer(buffer)
buffer:word_part_left() end }
keys['cright'] = { function() textadept.check_focused_buffer(buffer)
buffer:word_part_right() end }
keys['csleft'] = { function() textadept.check_focused_buffer(buffer)
buffer:word_part_left_extend() end }
keys['csright'] = { function() textadept.check_focused_buffer(buffer)
buffer:word_part_right_extend() end }
keys['csup'] = { function() textadept.check_focused_buffer(buffer)
buffer:line_up_extend() end }
keys['csdown'] = { function() textadept.check_focused_buffer(buffer)
buffer:line_down_extend() end }

For some reason, Textadept gets confused about where to send the key
presses when the view is split. For some other reason,
check_focused_buffer works around this problem.

Is this a bug?
