Yes, it's very tempting, but a little C extension would be more portable.

Some people do feel strongly about native dialog boxes, especially the
file open/save, since they can share any customizations with the rest
of the system (e.g. 'favorites')

I agree that LuaJIT support is probably overkill (like driving a
Bugati to the shops) but Mike P takes compatibility with Lua 5.1 very
seriously, and would appreciate a reproducible case that failed to
work properly.
